WHO ARE WE?

Picture

One day...

One day, in a very long meeting about something totally different in Lent of 2016 that involved lots of coffee, three youth ministers asked a question: what would our ministries look like if our teens were committed to having a daily prayer life? Not sort of committed, or interested in the idea, but truly and genuinely committed. After a very short conversation, we realized that would be the best thing we could possibly hope for. Teens who have a deeper relationship with God developed in and through prayer? When that happens, and your heart is truly set on fire for Christ, you’re ready to change the world. After some more coffee, a discussion full of big dreams, and the creation of a new website, Carpe Verbum was born. Since that time, a lot has happened; two other youth ministers joined the team, the contributors grew and changed, we added a spiritual director, and a whole lot of people shared about growing in their prayer and love of Christ through Carpe Verbum. We could not be more grateful.

Seize the Word...

You have probably heard of carpe diem, which is Latin for "seize the day." Carpe Verbum, then, is Latin for "seize the word," which is what Carpe Verbum is built to help you do every day with the Word of God. By diving into the Word of God, what He is saying to us, how it affects our relationship with Him and how it should impact our lives, we can more fully live out Jesus’s call for each one of us. Reading the Word of God should change our life, and this resource is built to begin that process of change.

Putting the Word of God into your hands...

There really is not a good excuse to not pray every day, but we are plenty good at trying to excuse ourselves. Whether it’s “I’m too busy” or “I am too tired”, “I have too much homework” or “I was going to but then things came up,” the list is practically endless. So, with Carpe Verbum, we want to meet you where you’re at. We want to put the word of God into your hands on something you are already using every day: your phone (or, if you're not on your smartphone all the time, you can use the computer, and we know you can do that). Since it comes as a text message sent every morning, these reflections should be one of the first things you see. With this text, you can start your day with the Word of God, return to it throughout the day, and truly live out your faith in your school, your family, your teams and your friends. Don’t just read the word of God, act on it...
