Step #1: Lectio / Read
Click the link below or open your Bible to the passage and read through the reading at least once, paying attention to what is happening in the text.
Step #2: Meditatio / Meditate
Use the following meditation to help you reflect more deeply on the Scripture (you may want to read the passage again).
Do not worry about your defense or what you are to say.
You are worth more than many sparrows. Write that on your hand. Write it on a post-it note and stick it to the wall. Anything to get you to remember that this is the Truth and you are worth something!
Sometimes I struggle with the fact that I don't feel worthy for God's love. I don't know why I still do since I know in my head that He loves me, but sometimes it takes a long time for the knowledge to get down there. In this scripture, Jesus's words remind me of his love. He's right! I shouldn't be afraid of what is coming next. All of the hairs of my head have been counted... and I think that's crazy because I have a thick head of hair!
What a good reminder this is for us. And this reading is also a reminder that God's plan for us will be revealed in its own time. Day by day, hour by hour. It is best to live in the present because that is truly all that we have to love God. Once, my dad said that the devil tries to make us despair about our past and anxiety about the future because he wants to take us away from God loving us right here and now. Do not worry about your defense or what you are to say. Exodus 14:14 says "the Lord will fight for you, you only need to be still."
Let us carry that small message throughout our day today in the midst of anxiety and stress.
Step #3: Oratio / Pray
These questions are to be used to talk to God; have a conversation with the Lord about these questions and what is going on in your heart as you pray today.
What are some reminders in your life of God's love for you?
What do you need to do to live more in the present and love the Lord?
What are you anxious about? Give it to the Lord today.
Step #4: Contemplatio / Contemplate
In this step, you listen. Stop talking, let God speak to your heart. You may repeat one of these short phrases to focus your mind on the Lord.
"You need only be still."
"You are worth it."
"Jesus, I trust in you."
Step #5: Actio / Act
In light of today's reading and your time spent in prayer with the Lord, what concrete action or actions will you take to let this encounter with Lord bear fruit in you today?
Choose a word or phrase that stuck to you today. Write it on a sticky note and put it somewhere where you will see it often.
