Step #1: Lectio / Read
Click the link below or open your Bible to the passage and read through the reading at least once, paying attention to what is happening in the text.
Step #2: Meditatio / Meditate
Use the following meditation to help you reflect more deeply on the Scripture (you may want to read the passage again).
Faith is a great concept, but does it really work? Does prayer REALLY work? I know I cannot be the only one who has asked those questions. I know faith changes me, but can it really change the world. The simple answer: yes.
The cool thing about God is that He doesn't break His promises. As humans we are so used to broken promises and emptiness. It sounds depressing, but I don't mean it to be. We just aren't perfect. Most of the time it is unintentional and even insignificant, but we are not perfect. We learn to see the good intentions of people and give them a little extra leeway, as we should. This mentality often carries over to God though. "It's a nice thought that He loves me even when I sin, but that can't be really true." "I am sure He doesn't care about me personally, but the fact that He loved 'us' that much is cool." These thoughts are real temptations because that's how we view human love and human promises, but they fall so short of truth. God does love you, individually and personally and cares about your life, honestly and deeply.
Abraham believed God, even if it sounded crazy, because He took God at His word. Can you imagine if we did that? If we believed God could do the seemingly impossible? If we just trusted God and took Him at His word? God will never let sincere, pure faith go unfulfilled. If we come to Him with pure desires and sincere faith, He will move mountains in our lives. Trust Him, take Him at His word, and come to Him with a pure heart. You have nothing to lose and everything to gain.
Step #3: Oratio / Pray
These questions are to be used to talk to God; have a conversation with the Lord about these questions and what is going on in your heart as you pray today.
Do you have faith that God can do the seemingly impossible in your life? Why or why not?
Do you come to Him with a pure heart or selfish motives? How can you begin to purify those motives?
How can you begin to trust God more and on a deeper level?
Step #4: Contemplatio / Contemplate
In this step, you listen. Stop talking, let God speak to your heart. You may repeat one of these short phrases to focus your mind on the Lord.
"Jesus I trust in You."
"Here's my heart Lord."
"Come Holy Spirit."
Step #5: Actio / Act
In light of today's reading and your time spent in prayer with the Lord, what concrete action or actions will you take to let this encounter with the Lord bear fruit in you today?
Give God a chance to do amazing things in your life. Have faith that He can, and then give Him the opportunity to do so. Let Him be miraculous in your life today, and trust that He can and He will, even if its in a way you never expected.
