Step #1: Lectio / Read
Click the link below or open your Bible to the passage and read through the reading at least once, paying attention to what is happening in the text.
Step #2: Meditatio / Meditate
Use the following meditation to help you reflect more deeply on the Scripture (you may want to read the passage again).
"All of us, gazing with unveiled face on the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, as from the Lord who is the Spirit."
In today's first reading, Paul shows us just how close we can really become with God when we turn to Him. Before Christ, the Israelites could only see God in a veiled way; now we can see Him in the fullness of His glory. The "veil" that separates us from God is removed and we are transformed by this reality. When nothing gets in the way of God's glory, it shines on us and brings us into the Father's glory. We can partake in God's glory.
The hold up for me is that, well, I can't really see God tangibly, or His glory. But that wasn't Paul's point. When we pray and read or listen to God's Word in the Bible, we see who He is. We see how much He loves us and how much He cares for each person. The Father so loved the world even in its sinful and rebellious state and sent His Son, Jesus, who willingly died so that we might know the Father's great love. Then He sent the Holy Spirit that we always have Him with us, have all the helps we need, and that we might always know and remember all that God has done for us. By turning our hearts to God in prayer, by really opening your heart to a relationship with Him and seeing who He really is, "we are being transformed into the image from glory to glory," we become more like God.
So be more like God today. Get to know Him through His Word and turn your heart to Him. Be more deeply transformed and strive for the glory of God.
Step #3: Oratio / Pray
These questions are to be used to talk to God; have a conversation with the Lord about these questions and what is going on in your heart as you pray today.
Do you feel like God is veiled from you? What places in your heart are veiled from Him?
In what ways do you need to turn your heart to God so that you may see His glory? How does knowing who He is and what He has done for you help you open up to Him?
How can you be transformed by glory today so that you may reflect that glory to others?
Step #4: Contemplatio / Contemplate
"Transform my heart."
"I want to see you."
"I love you."
Step #5: Actio / Act
In light of today's reading and your time spent in prayer with the Lord, what concrete action or actions will you take to let this encounter with the Lord bear fruit in you today?
Today, reflect God's glory. God shows His glory in love, obedience, and sacrifice (see John 17). So, love today even when it feels impossible, be obedient to God's Word, and sacrifice what you want for the good of others. Live like Christ and be His image of glory to others.
