Step #1: Lectio / ReadClick the link below or open your Bible to the passage and read through the reading at least once, paying attention to what is happening in the text. Step #2: Meditatio / MeditateUse the following meditation to help you reflect more deeply on the Scripture (you may want to read the passage again). In a couple months, parents across the country will shed a few tears. For the first time, their children will leave home for college and won’t return for months. It’s a tough pill to swallow for mom, dad, and siblings. I experienced this when my mom dropped me off in my college dorm. The hug and image of her crying as she walked down the hallway to the elevator is something I’ll never forget. Looking back on it now, I realize she prepared me for that moment for years. Just like Jesus prepared the apostles and disciples during his time on Earth. Christ’s message in today’s gospel highlights the importance of preparedness. Jesus spent his adult life making sure we are ready for a world without Him in the physical, human form. It scared the disciples. To hear Him say it, is a punch to the gut, but to know Jesus will always be with us spiritually is worth the sacrifice. Jesus is preparing you for a life of faith. He is waiting for you in the tabernacle. Will you go and proclaim the gospel? Step #3: Oratio / PrayThese questions are to be used to talk to God; have a conversation with the Lord about these questions and what is going on in your heart as you pray today. How can you prepare yourself to be an example to Christ to the world? Jesus is always present with us in the tabernacle. How much time do you go and spend with Him? Do you trust that Jesus will not leave you? Step #4: Contemplatio / ContemplateIn this step, you listen. Stop talking, let God speak to your heart. You may repeat one of these short phrases to focus your mind on the Lord. "I trust you Lord." "Stay with me." "Prepare me Jesus." Step #5: Actio / ActIn light of today's reading and your time spent in prayer with the Lord, what concrete action or actions will you take to let this encounter with the Lord bear fruit in you today? Go spend time with Jesus today either in adoration or with the tabernacle. Ask Jesus to help you know that He is always with you.
