Step #1: Lectio / Read
Click the link below or open your Bible to the passage and read through the reading at least once, paying attention to what is happening in the text.
Step #2: Meditatio / Meditate
Use the following meditation to help you reflect more deeply on the Scripture (you may want to read the passage again).
Does it ever feel like God is ignoring you? Or not noticing all the good things you do for Him and His Church?
It can be easy to compare ourselves to those around us and see the ways that the Lord is working in their lives, but feel like He may have forgotten us. It can be tempting to give up and throw in the towel, especially when we feel forgotten or ignored. And sometimes, it might seem like it would be easier to not believe in God and to not have to deal with everything that requires of us. Our faith is not easy. It demands great things of us and asks us to learn and experience the meaning of redemptive suffering and to rely on the joy of the Lord to be our strength.
We hear and read about men like Moses and Abraham, and I think we often forget that they were once ordinary men like us. Simple men who were also struggling to follow the will of God and what He was calling them to do, but they still chose to not lose hope in God. These are the men we now look up to because of their great perseverance in faith. Think about hundreds of years from now, will you too be remembered for your great faith?
The Lord has not forgotten you. He has not overlooked your good deeds. He wants you to continue to persevere in hope and trust in his promises. All good things take time. Hold on to hope, and may that hope be the anchor of your soul.
Step #3: Oratio / Pray
These questions are to be used to talk to God; have a conversation with the Lord about these questions and what is going on in your heart as you pray today.
What do you want your legacy to be? What do you want to be remembered for? Why?
Do you believe that you can be a saint? It is our universal and personal call; and just like the saints before us, we are ordinary people, doing ordinary thing, but in extraordinary ways with extraordinary love. How can you live more like that today?
What might God be calling you to patiently endure or persevere? How can that make you holier?
Step #4: Contemplatio / Contemplate
In this step, you listen. Stop talking, let God speak to your heart. You may repeat one of these short phrases to focus your mind on the Lord.
"I am made for sainthood."
"Thank you for your faithfulness God!"
"Help me patiently love."
Step #5: Actio / Act
In light of today's reading and your time spent in prayer with the Lord, what concrete action or actions will you take to let this encounter with Lord bear fruit in you today?
Do something today to take a concrete step to sainthood. Find a way to make love your legacy. And remember to always do it with humility and never pride!
