Step #1: Lectio / ReadClick the link below or open your Bible to the passage and read through the reading at least once, paying attention to what is happening in the text. Step #2: Meditatio / MeditateUse the following meditation to help you reflect more deeply on the Scripture (you may want to read the passage again). Not long ago I had the pleasure of visiting Niagara Falls. On one hand, it’s just a big ledge with a bunch of water falling over it. Whoopee. On the other hand, to visit and experience the falls is remarkably breathtaking. One of my favorite memories of the falls was on the Maid of the Mist boat ride. As the boat entered the turbulent waters where the waterfall emptied out, Niagara Falls seemed to grow larger and larger right before my eyes. And I felt smaller and smaller. The size, the power, the sound, the sheer beauty left me speechless. In that moment, it was really easy to see and feel the Lord in my life. That’s because Niagara Falls is really good at being a waterfall. Today’s Psalm calls on all of the Lord’s creation to glorify Him: “Let the heavens be glad and the earth rejoice; let the sea and what fills it resound; let the plains be joyful and all that is in them! Then shall all the trees of the forest exult.” How sad would it be if Niagara Falls held back? If it didn’t let loose with all its magnificent fury! The Lord created that waterfall to be amazing, to glorify Him by simply being what it was created to be: His waterfall. How sad would it be if you and I held back the power and movement of the Holy Spirit in us? If we didn’t let loose and allow Him to live in and through us? The Lord created you and I to be amazing. Not in our own right, but by his mercy and grace. To live a life that makes it easy for others to see God in us. We glorify Him most when we are simply who He has created us to be: His beloved child. Take the advice of today’s Psalm. Take the advice of Niagara Falls. Let loose and allow the Lord to direct your life. In this way you will glorify Him and truly live a remarkable life. Step #3: Oratio / PrayThese questions are to be used to talk to God; have a conversation with the Lord about these questions and what is going on in your heart as you pray today. How do I see the Lord in my life right now? In what ways is God calling me to let loose and let him live in me? How can God use my life to glorify him more and more? Step #4: Contemplatio / ContemplateIn this step, you listen. Stop talking, let God speak to your heart. You may repeat one of these short phrases to focus your mind on the Lord. "Come, Holy Spirit!" "Help me let loose." "Let me be who you created me to be." Step #5: Actio / ActIn light of today's reading and your time spent in prayer with the Lord, what concrete action or actions will you take to let this encounter with the Lord bear fruit in you today? Take time to experience the glory of God's creation today. It could be a simple walk outside, paying attention while you're driving around, or doing something adventurous. Let the beauty of creation glorifying God fill you and help you let loose.
