Step #1: Lectio / Read
Click the link below or open your Bible to the passage and read through the reading at least once, paying attention to what is happening in the text.
Step #2: Meditatio / Meditate
Use the following meditation to help you reflect more deeply on the Scripture (you may want to read the passage again).
“Let brotherly love continue.” If you want to know how to live like God, then simply love. See love is not just a feeling, or an emotion. It is not just about physical affection, nor is fleeting or abstract. Love is real and is powerful.
Love is the thing that makes us fully human. It makes us do good in a world that often tells us to just do you. See love isn’t about just “you”, it is about “good”. Love calls is on to sacrifice for others and ultimately for God. Love helps us keep our priorities straight and give the right amount of ourselves to the right things.
Life is not about simply avoiding sin. It is about loving well. At the end of your life, that is what we are measured by. And love done well makes us avoid sin; not out of fear of punishment, but rather because it is good to do so and good for our soul.
Today, worry about doing good. Love well and love with all you have. Love purely, love deeply, and love without reserve. Build off of the good you have done, grow from your mistakes, and “let brotherly love continue.”
Step #3: Oratio / Pray
These questions are to be used to talk to God; have a conversation with the Lord about these questions and what is going on in your heart as you pray today.
If you've made a mistake, do you withhold sharing love because you feel you're 'not worthy' to give love anymore?
Do you think that love is about just always being nice to other people so they don't punish you?
Do you believe you are worthy of love from others?
Step #4: Contemplatio / Contemplate
In this step, you listen. Stop talking, let God speak to your heart. You may repeat one of these short phrases to focus your mind on the Lord.
"I am worthy of Love."
"I am capable of Love."
"I love you Lord."
Step #5: Actio / Act
In light of today's reading and your time spent in prayer with the Lord, what concrete action or actions will you take to let this encounter with the Lord bear fruit in you today?
Take a few minutes today to do something out of love for another person. It could be something small or something big, but do something out of love for someone else.
