Step #1: Lectio / ReadClick the link below or open your Bible to the passage and read through the reading at least once, paying attention to what is happening in the text.
Step #2: Meditatio / MeditateUse the following meditation to help you reflect more deeply on the Scripture (you may want to read the passage again).
Ten days into my move to Vermont, I called my mom sobbing. I couldn’t live there anymore. It was too different, too out of my comfort zone. After a conversation with my mom and our priest, I told them I would stick it out. My confidence was slowly returning.
That feeling didn’t last long. For the next year, I complained about work, my coworkers, and living in Vermont. I was so ready to leave; even if it meant quitting my job and living at home. Then one day, I realized I needed to change. Stop the complaining and give my all to living in the moment. It was a great, life-changing decision. I learned to appreciate the friends I made and, the times we spent together. Like Paul called for in the first reading, humility and patience can go a long way. I’ve been fortunate to know my calling in work at a younger age, but I still had some growing to do. Sometimes, God calls us out of our comfort zones to flourish in our faith journey. There are growing pains, but those experiences make us stronger. Step #3: Oratio / PrayThese questions are to be used to talk to God; have a conversation with the Lord about these questions and what is going on in your heart as you pray today.
What am I dwelling on and complaining about in my life?
How can I work to appreciate the place where I am instead of dwelling on the negatives? What can I be grateful for today? Step #4: Contemplatio / ContemplateIn this step, you listen. Stop talking, let God speak to your heart. You may repeat one of these short phrases to focus your mind on the Lord.
"I'm grateful."
"I'm here, in this moment." "I love you Lord." Step #5: Actio / ActIn this step, you listen. Stop talking, let God speak to your heart. You may repeat one of these short phrases to focus your mind on the Lord.
Choose something you'll change your perspective on today. Reverse your outlook on something small or something big.
