Step #1: Lectio / ReadClick the link below or open your Bible to the passage and read through the reading at least once, paying attention to what is happening in the text. Step #2: Meditatio / MeditateUse the following meditation to help you reflect more deeply on the Scripture (you may want to read the passage again). In many ways, it is easy to live a double life -- a life where we act one way at school and another way at church, a life where we act one way towards our friends and another way towards our family, a life where we are constantly changing ourselves to “fit in” or satisfy other people. It can be a lot harder to live an integrated life, a life where we are constantly true to ourselves and to who God created us to be. We can easily hide behind various masks in front of different people or groups of people, even in front of God, but I think, at the end of the day, we would all agree it gets to be really exhausting. No one wants to be the servant who gets caught by the master in the midst of treating the other servants wrongly. Faithfulness has a lot more to do with how you act when (you think) no one is watching than how you can act where (you know) there is someone watching. We don’t have to hide from God. In fact, we can’t hide from God. So what’s the point of trying to hide from Him? Show your true self to God today. You don’t have to pretend, but be real with Him. And be real with yourself. That is the beginning of real intimacy with the Lord. Step #3: Oratio / PrayThese questions are to be used to talk to God; have a conversation with the Lord about these questions and what is going on in your heart as you pray today. What do I tend to hide or hold back from God? Do I struggle with being true to myself and who God created me to be? Why or why not? Where in my life am I tired of hiding or not being real? Step #4: Contemplatio / ContemplateIn this step, you listen. Stop talking, let God speak to your heart. You may repeat one of these short phrases to focus your mind on the Lord. "Here I am, Lord." "I give you my heart." "I am a child of God." Step #5: Actio / ActIn this step, you listen. Stop talking, let God speak to your heart. You may repeat one of these short phrases to focus your mind on the Lord. Dig deep and share something with God today that you have been holding back.
