Step #1: Lectio / Read
Click the link below or open your Bible to the passage and read through the reading at least once, paying attention to what is happening in the text.
Step #2: Meditatio / Meditate
Use the following meditation to help you reflect more deeply on the Scripture (you may want to read the passage again).
"I have made you a light to the Gentiles,
that you may be an instrument of salvation
to the ends of the earth.”
The first Christians were all Jewish people, and they were comfortable with that. They felt safe in their community and in their own traditions. For some reason it was easier to accept Jesus' death and Resurrection than it was to accept that anyone besides a Jewish person could be a follower of Christ. Jesus had a bigger plan.
How often do we just feel comfortable with the Christians in our pews? I see so many people who are afraid to evangelize or spread the love of God to certain people because they are not you're "typical Christian." We find it easier to isolate than to reach out and teach people about Jesus. We believe He rose from the dead, but we don't believe He can convert that person into a Christian. That logic doesn't make any sense to me! This faith is not one to hold silently and only to be expressed on Sundays. This is a faith that should impact every aspect of our lives, and one we should want to share with every person we meet, whether that makes us comfortable or not.
Some of the biggest sinners became some of the biggest saints. Some of the worst outcasts became our greatest leaders. Let us stop putting people, our faith, and especially our God, in a box. Let us live our faith and share that with anyone who wants to listen. Be bold, be brave, be Christian! You may be the person God has called to help open the door just enough for someone that never would have said yes to Jesus otherwise. Jesus is the Savior of all, let's go tell them about Him.
Step #3: Oratio / Pray
These questions are to be used to talk to God; have a conversation with the Lord about these questions and what is going on in your heart as you pray today.
Who are you afraid to invite into your faith? Why?
How can you help others see Jesus as their Savior and the joy that comes with following His Church?
Is it easier for you to talk about your Catholic faith with other Christians who aren't Catholic or with non-Christians? Why?
Step #4: Contemplatio / Contemplate
In this step, you listen. Stop talking, let God speak to your heart. You may repeat one of these short phrases to focus your mind on the Lord.
"Jesus, I trust in You."
"Come Holy Spirit."
"Let me be a channel of Your Peace."
Step #5: Actio / Act
In light of today's reading and your time spent in prayer with the Lord, what concrete action or actions will you take to let this encounter with the Lord bear fruit in you today?
Talk to somebody today about your faith. Talk to somebody who it is a little uncomfortable for you to share your faith with. Continue to be bold anytime you have even the tiniest gut feeling to share your faith and actually do it!
