Step #1: Lectio / ReadClick the link below or open your Bible to the passage and read through the reading at least once, paying attention to what is happening in the text. Step #2: Meditatio / MeditateUse the following meditation to help you reflect more deeply on the Scripture (you may want to read the passage again). Two disciples approach Jesus in the Gospel and ask him: “Rabbi, where are you staying?” It is a great question that reveals their hearts...they are interested in the person of Jesus. How interested are you in Jesus? Are you interested in finding where God stays? How often do you seek Jesus? We are still celebrating the Christmas season and this time of year specifically reminds us that God is not distant; rather, He is very close. He is present. He is interested in us. He is approachable. And He is discoverable. The New Year is a great time for resolutions and one suggestion would be a resolution to “seek Jesus more earnestly.” Our lives are filled with a lot of time dedicated to studying, playing, activities, socialization, chilling, family, and work . . . but how about the important time we should dedicate to “seeking Jesus.” When Jesus is discovered or encountered, He pours out truth, goodness, beauty, peace, meaning and love. Reflect today on your resolve to seek Jesus more in the coming days and year. Those first disciples of Jesus were interested in the person of Jesus and they actively pursued encounters with Him. Where will you look to encounter Jesus today? Step #3: Oratio / PrayThese questions are to be used to talk to God; have a conversation with the Lord about these questions and what is going on in your heart as you pray today. What are the ways in your life right now where you are seeking Jesus? Where will you look to encounter Jesus today? In this coming year, how can you make intentional changes to seek and find Jesus more effectively? Step #4: Contemplatio / ContemplateIn this step, you listen. Stop talking, let God speak to your heart. You may repeat one of these short phrases to focus your mind on the Lord. "I long to find you, Lord." "Come, Lord Jesus." "Help me seek you." Step #5: Actio / ActIn light of today's reading and your time spent in prayer with the Lord, what concrete action or actions will you take to let this encounter with the Lord bear fruit in you today? If you haven't yet made any new year's resolutions, make one about how you will seek Jesus this year. If you have made them, look back over them and make sure that they have set you up to make room for Jesus effectively in the new year.
