Step #1: Lectio / Read
Click the link below or open your Bible to the passage and read through the reading at least once, paying attention to what is happening in the text.
Step #2: Meditatio / Meditate
Use the following meditation to help you reflect more deeply on the Scripture (you may want to read the passage again).
Isn't Solomon's prayer in this reading beautiful?
Solomon is the great and wise king of Israel, the son of Israel's greatest king, David, and the one who builds a temple to the Lord. This great ruler, this great leader, who is known all around the world for his wisdom, stands in front of all of his people and offers a prayer to God that is simply a prayer of praise for how great God is.
How often do we stand back and simply find ourselves in awe at the greatness of God?
We worship a God who is alive, working powerfully in our world and constantly coming after you and I to bring us into a relationship with Him. It is important for us regularly to simply make a prayer of praise and worship of God.
How great You are, Lord, who created the heavens and earth.
How amazing it is Lord that you came down from heaven and became man, and now come to encounter me in each and every Mass.
How beautiful is your creation, Lord.
Today, let us be filled with awe and wonder at the greatness of the Lord and the beauty of His creation. Let us pray with Solomon, knowing that nothing and no one can compare to our God, and trusting that in His greatness and His power He hears our prayer.
Step #3: Oratio / Pray
These questions are to be used to talk to God; have a conversation with the Lord about these questions and what is going on in your heart as you pray today.
What are the things you want to praise and thank God for today?
How can you be more cognizant each day of the beauty of our God and the ways that He has blessed you? Think about moments in your day when you can pause to truly reflect on who He is and what He does for each of us.
What does it mean to you to truly adore and worship God?
Step #4: Contemplatio / Contemplate
In this step, you listen. Stop talking, let God speak to your heart. You may repeat one of these short phrases to focus your mind on the Lord.
"You are great."
"I praise You, oh Lord."
"You are worthy."
Step #5: Actio / Act
In light of today's reading and your time spent in prayer with the Lord, what concrete action or actions will you take to let this encounter with the Lord bear fruit in you today?
Take at least 3 moments today to pause and make a prayer to God in adoration and worship of His greatness. Maybe you can pause and say a Glory Be. Maybe you pause to thank Him for a beautiful sigh in nature. Maybe you pause to give Him thanks for a blessing. Whatever it is, pause a few times today to reflect on His greatness, even if it is just for a moment.
