Step #1: Lectio / Read
Click the link below or open your Bible to the passage and read through the reading at least once, paying attention to what is happening in the text.
Step #2: Meditatio / Meditate
Use the following meditation to help you reflect more deeply on the Scripture (you may want to read the passage again).
Once in a while, I meet people who would admit that they stopped going to church or practice religion because they felt judged all the time. "The preaching is all about what is bad about me, rather than what God desires to do in me, despite my sinfulness," they would add.
In today's gospel, Jesus is asking us to make a proclamation. That means we are to spread the good news. The good news is that the Kingdom of Heaven is at hand, and therefore, in His name, we should "cure the sick, raise the dead, cleanse the lepers and drive out demons." In summary, to proclaim His Kingdom, we must bring His mercy and healing love.
The Kingdom of Heaven is at hand, so today, God is inviting you and me to cure our sick relationships through humility, raise the dead soul caused by sins through His sacrament of Reconciliation, cleanse our spiritual leprosy by charity, and drive out demons by the purity of our lifestyle.
Jesus' proclamation is never centered on our sinfulness, that part comes out only that we may come to Him and repent. Jesus' proclamation is all about His love for us, that He may heal and raise us and be enriched by Him. No, let us do the same.
Step #3: Oratio / Pray
These questions are to be used to talk to God; have a conversation with the Lord about these questions and what is going on in your heart as you pray today.
How has growing in your relationship with God with a deeper understanding of His mercy and love helped you proclaim the Kingdom of Heaven?
How are you living out and proclaiming the Kingdom through humility, charity, and purity?
What do you need to repent of to receive God's healing so that you can be enriched by Christ?
Step #4: Contemplatio / Contemplate
In this step, you listen. Stop talking, let God speak to your heart. You may repeat one of these short phrases to focus your mind on the Lord.
"Heal me, Lord."
"Have mercy on me."
"Lead me to do your will."
Step #5: Actio / Act
In light of today's reading and your time spent in prayer with the Lord, what concrete action or actions will you take to let this encounter with the Lord bear fruit in you today?
Today, be aware of how you are interacting with others. Proclaim the Kingdom through your actions as you cure sick relationships through humility, raise the dead soul caused by sins through His sacrament of Reconciliation, cleanse spiritual leprosy by charity, and drive out demons by purity of lifestyle. So, be humble, loving, pure of heart, and try to go to the sacrament of Reconciliation today or at least sometime this week.
