STEP #1: LECTIO / READToday's reading is the Responsorial Psalm: STEP #2: MEDITATIO / MEDITATEI'm pretty good at throwing a fit. I don't know if it is an oldest child thing or an always needing to be right thing, but if things don't go my way I can have a freakout of epic proportions. I don't pride myself on this, and it is something I'm trying to work on. But it is definitely something that can get the best of me. (Sometimes I take great solace in the fact that St. Therese could throw a good fit too. So there's hope for me right?) I save my worst fits for Jesus though. It's pretty bad. Whenever something goes wrong, like it pours rain during the block party, I walk right into the chapel and give him a piece of my mind. Or when a youth ministry night doesn't go as planned, sometimes I go tell Him exactly why that is His fault. Not my brightest or best moments. But what does Jesus do while I am being a brat? He just sits there. He lets me look at Him. He takes all my anger, frustration, sadness and all of my emotions. He lets me work through them. And the He lets me know how much I am loved. Today's psalm calls this into mind for me. God is just. He doesn't want these things to go wrong. He doesn't want me to be so upset. So He does what He can. He sits there and loves me. The psalm says: The Lord is just in all his ways. The LORD is faithful in all his words and holy in all his works. The LORD lifts up all who are falling and raises up all who are bowed down. When I am upset, God is there. He is showing me His compassion, His love and His mercy. There is no burden I can take to Him that is too big. There is nothing I can do that would make Him stop loving me. Our God is just. And we are loved. STEP #3: ORATIO / PRAYHow do I act when I am upset? When do I let my bratty-side show? Do I believe God loves me unconditionally? STEP #4: CONTEMPLATIO / CONTEMPLATEGod is just. God is compassionate. God is love. FOR THE REST OF YOUR DAY...Pay attention to when you get stressed or anxious. Say your favorite pray in those moments and ask God to remind you of His love for you. SMARTPHONE LOCK SCREEN
