Step #2: Meditatio / Meditate
Use the following meditation to help you reflect more deeply on the Scripture (you may want to read the passage again).
“Whoever seeks to preserve his life will lose it, but whoever loses it will save it.” In my early journey I did not understand what that meant. I was learning the faith and not reading the bible. Only when I accepted all the Catholic teachings and began to study the bible did I realized the grim reality of what God was asking of me.
I was raised by the world and was eating and drinking – living a life of selfishness and seeking worldly pleasure. When God showed me the way I was living my life was not what He desired, I felt powerless to walk away from my sinful ways. How could I possibly change all of these things in my life? How do I die to my bodily desires and exercise self-control?
I realized that verse was all about me detaching from things of this world. I knew, logically, what I needed to do. I tried to change on my own but kept falling and crawling to confession for forgiveness. I was beginning to despise my weakness. My shame and guilt was overwhelming.
I finally humbled myself to ask God to help me with my faults. When I begged him to change my heart His grace began to flow. I needed God to transform me. I began to pray to lose my life so I can live in eternity with Him forever. No matter what your weakness is, God is your strength. Let’s remember to run to Him for His help because true transformation, peace, love and joy can only come from God.
Step #3: Oratio / Pray
These questions are to be used to talk to God; have a conversation with the Lord about these questions and what is going on in your heart as you pray today.
Are you weighed down by what God is asking you to do?
What do you do to run to the Father and give Him your burdens?
Are you ready for your life to be transformed?
Step #4: Contemplatio / Contemplate
In this step, you listen. Stop talking, let God speak to your heart. You may repeat one of these short phrases to focus your mind on the Lord.
"I bring it all to you Lord."
"Live in me Jesus."
"I'm ready to be transformed."
Step #5: Actio / Act
In light of today's reading and your time spent in prayer with the Lord, what concrete action or actions will you take to let this encounter with the Lord bear fruit in you today?
Take some time today to lift the burden of someone else. Maybe that's helping with dishes or cleaning the house, maybe it's raking leaves for the neighbor, baking cookies for someone down the street. Do something to alleviate someone else's burden today like the Lord alleviates yours.
